Introduction

Every second matters in a medical emergency. Knowing what to do — and what NOT to do — before the ambulance arrives can make the difference between life and death. At A3 Ambulance Service, we have responded to thousands of emergencies across Bangladesh. Based on our experience, we have put together 10 essential tips that every person should know.

1. 📞 Call Immediately — Don’t Wait

The biggest mistake people make is waiting too long to call for help. The moment someone collapses, loses consciousness, or shows signs of a stroke or heart attack — call an ambulance right away. Every minute of delay reduces the chances of survival.

A3 Tip: Save our emergency number on your phone today — before you ever need it.

2. 🗺️ Know Your Exact Location

When you call, the first question will be — “Where are you?” Always be ready with:

  • Your full address
  • A nearby landmark (mosque, school, hospital name)
  • The floor number if you are in a building

A3 Tip: If you are in an unfamiliar area, open Google Maps and share your live location with us.

3. 🧘 Stay Calm and Speak Clearly

Panic slows everything down. Take a deep breath and speak slowly and clearly when you call. The dispatcher needs accurate information to send the right team with the right equipment.

A3 Tip: Put your phone on speaker so you can talk and assist the patient at the same time.

4. 🚪 Keep the Path Clear

Before the ambulance arrives, make sure the path to the patient is completely clear:

  • Open all doors and gates
  • Move furniture or obstacles
  • Send someone outside to guide the ambulance team

A3 Tip: In apartment buildings, call the lift and keep it ready on the ground floor.

5. 🩺 Do Not Move the Patient Unnecessarily

Unless the patient is in immediate danger (fire, flood), do not move them. Moving an injured person incorrectly can worsen spinal injuries or internal bleeding.

A3 Tip: Keep the patient still, warm, and comfortable until our team arrives.

6. 💊 Gather Medical Information

When the ambulance team arrives, they will need key information fast:

  • Patient’s name and age
  • Medical history (diabetes, heart disease, etc.)
  • Current medications being taken
  • Allergies, if any

A3 Tip: Keep a small written card with this information in your wallet or phone case.

7. 🫀 Learn Basic CPR

If the patient has no pulse or has stopped breathing, CPR can save their life while waiting for the ambulance. Push hard and fast in the center of the chest — 100 to 120 compressions per minute.

A3 Tip: Sign up for a basic first aid and CPR course — it is a skill that can save someone you love.

8. 🚗 Do NOT Drive the Patient Yourself (If Possible)

Many people rush to drive the patient to the hospital on their own. This can be dangerous because:

  • The patient cannot receive medical care during the ride
  • The driver may panic and cause an accident
  • There is no medical equipment in a private car

A3 Tip: An ambulance with trained staff is always safer than a private vehicle in a medical emergency.

9. 🔋 Keep Your Phone Charged

You never know when an emergency will strike. A dead phone in a critical moment can cost a life. Make it a habit to keep your phone charged above 30% at all times.

A3 Tip: Keep a portable power bank at home and in your car — always charged and ready.

10. 📋 Know the Difference Between Emergencies

Not all situations need the same response. Learn to recognize:

SituationAction
Heart Attack / StrokeCall ambulance immediately
UnconsciousnessCall ambulance + start CPR
Serious AccidentCall ambulance, do not move patient
Difficulty BreathingCall ambulance, keep patient upright
Minor InjuryVisit nearest clinic or hospital
